Tips for Travelling with Infants and Small Children

Time to bundle up your little ones, get packing, and escape the ice and snow of our frosty Canadian winter.

But if you can’t get away yourself, perhaps you’ll be sending your kids on a trip with Grandma and Grandpa or Uncle Bob and Aunt Sue.

As you know, it can be challenging to travel with infants and small children.

The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) offers some great tips for flying with youngsters.

For example, when travelling with a baby under two years of age, CATSA suggests bringing baby food, formula, milk, water and juice. These items are exempt from the liquids restrictions when brought on board for this purpose. However, gel or ice packs are subject to the restrictions, so passengers are advised to freeze a bottle of milk or formula or carry a small bag of frozen veggies to keep their baby products cool. Battery-powered toys should also be packed in your carry-on bag, as some airlines have battery restrictions for checked baggage.

Besides food and toys, if your kids are travelling with relatives, they must be ready to present proper documentation, such as passports and/or birth certificates.
