What is a virtual commissioning?
Depending upon your Province or Territory, Online commissioning, also known as virtual or remote commissioning, may be legal for oaths, affidavits, and statutory declarations. It involves using video conferencing to verify identity and administer the oath, rather than having the person physically present.
List of Documents where Virtual Commissioning is Acceptable:
- Affidavits such as Affidavit of Identity, Service, Income, Divorce and Court
- Statutory Declaration such as Custodianship, Common Law, OSAP, Progress Payment
- Proof of Loss Form
- Name Change Application
- Vehicle Transfer Family Gift of Motor Vehicle
- Any other Statutory Declaration or Affidavit that needs to be commissioned

Virtual Meeting Process
- The commissioner will confirm appointment, provide the required links and acknowledgement form to be signed and sent back
- Use link to join the meeting
- Confirm identity & present ID
- Use link to access document and e-Sign
- Notary to e-Sign and affix appropriate stamps
- Pay with credit card at the session
- Receive your commissioned documents via email
Documents that require notarization cannot be done virtually as the notary must emboss the document with the notarial seal. For such documents, please book an appointment.
